This week, The Boss returns to number one on the charts after being dethroned last week by Kid Rock. As you know, I was upset by that. So one might think maybe there is something hopeful for the music industry... But no. Springsteen's new record sold only 77,000 copies last week, that's a pretty sad number for a number one album (in addition, the highest debut, Jimmy Eat World's new record only debuted at number 5 selling 62,000 - I can only hope that numbers will increase this week because of a large number of new releases). For comparison, a mere two weeks ago, Springsteen's record was number one for the first time, but it sold 335,000 copies then. So congrats to Bruce for beung number one, but he only sold about a fifth of what he did two weeks ago. The 77,000 is even less impressive when compared to the 957,000 that Kanye West's record sold in its first week earlier this year (in a week where each of the top three albums sold more than 5 times what the number one album this week sold). Sad. Even sadder compared to the turn of the millenium when records regularly went platinum in their first week of sales. Anyway, hopefully more records will sell next week, I bought like six records this week, so maybe that will help a little. Anyway, congrats to The Boss.

Also, buy records, like any records, please.
