If anyone is ever talking about an action movie, and they start a sentence with the phrase "I know they were trying to go for..." please punch them in the face until they are dead. All art is made to be enjoyed by people. Sometimes art is really deep or really spiritual or really meaningful... and that can be enjoyable because we recognize something of ourself or we recognize some flaw of the human condition or whatever. Anyway, the point is that however deep something is, it's still meant to be enjoyed. On the other hand, some art is just enjoyable because it's enjoyable and fun and action-packed. The point is, that there is no reason to try to appreciate art by trying to find something deep in it or over-analyzing something. If something needs to be heavily analyzed to be enjoyed, then fine, but not everything needs that. If you think that you can only appreciate something by trying to find some meaning in it, then you are as huge a douche as Sigmund Freud trying to find sex and incest in every work of art ever made. People wonder why I like terrible movies like The Howling 2 or Starcrash, it's because they're enjoyable to watch. In this case it's their failure that's enjoyable. Anyway, the new Indiana Jones movie is good, not because it reveals some great human truth, but because it has a character we love and a lot of action. It's not just with movies though. People like club music because it is fun to dance to and thus enjoyable and people like Robert Johnson because his music presents a unique (sort of) commentary on his historical circumstances or whatever. So enjoy things. There's a reason to enjoy pretty much everything. If you're not enjoying something, there's a good chance you're doing something wrong. Life will be a lot better if you appreciate things for what they are. And if you don't enjoy something, don't complain about it, because guess what? It's not a big deal. Complaining about stuff is really just a waste of your time and more importantly a waste of whoever you're talking to's soul. Enjoy things. Also, buy records... like Narrow Stairs by Death Cab For Cutie. It's really good, but what else would you expect?
